About Us
Preserving Brookton’s past for future generations.
Established in 1977, the Brookton & Districts Historical Society is a small, volunteer-run organisation dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing the history and heritage of Brookton and the surrounding districts.
Our home is the Brookton Museum & Heritage Centre, housed in the former Brookton Police Station and Quarters, built in 1913. The historic building is an important part of Brookton’s heritage and provides a fitting home for a collection that tells the stories of our community, its people, places and changing way of life.
Our collection includes photographs, documents, family histories and objects that reflect the district’s agricultural, railway, social and community history. A professional Significance Assessment completed in 2025 recognised the considerable cultural heritage significance of the collection and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
Small team. Big commitment.
Everything we do is made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers who care for the collection, undertake research, develop exhibitions and share Brookton’s stories.
We are proud of what our small organisation has achieved, but there is always more to do. We welcome new volunteers, whether you have an interest in local history, enjoy researching, organising collections, helping with exhibitions or simply have a little time to spare.
You don’t need to be a history expert to make a difference. Come and be part of preserving Brookton’s history for generations to come.
